Ann Korologos Gallery presents Landscapes, Legends and Light, a legendary 100-work exhibition where the power of place and the lightness of being converge on canvas, in sculptural form, and on paper. The exhibition is on view July 5 through August 2 with many opportunities to interact with the artists: an artist reception July 11th from 5 to 7PM, an artist talk and demonstration with ceramicist Michael Wisner, a 3-day gallery residency with Leon Loughridge, and artist spotlights on Dan Young, Terry Gardner, Margaretta Caesar and Diana Woods.
“Landscapes, Legends and Light is an opportunity for both artist and viewer to connect through an experience that is both universal and deeply intimate, evoking delight and contemplation,” shares Sue Edmonds, gallery director. “Join us for our only reception of the summer for the opportunity to meet many of our artists traveling from all over the southwest and beyond. Our desire is, and always has been, for every interaction with this art, the artists, and our community to bring beauty, connection, and knowledge to each person with every visit.”
This exhibition is an opportunity to connect with a unique roster of local and national painters, printmakers, mixed media artists and sculptors. Appreciate the range of styles from realism to abstraction, mediums from handmade local clay to bronze to oil to river rock, and a variety of subjects from imaginative figures to contemporary landscapes. Be awed by the delicate beauty of a still life or majesty of the mountains. Notice the details that catch the eye and cause a moment of reverie and joy. Study the portraits and changes of the culture and times. Explore the intersection of man and nature. Delight in the narrative of animals and wildlife. Experience the soft light and changes of season and the world depicted in abstraction.
On Friday, July 11th from 5 to 7PM, meet many of the Ann Korologos Gallery artists in the reception of the summer where many of the forty-four represented artists will be present for questions and conversation. Later in the exhibition ceramicist Michael Wisner will give an artist talk and demonstration Thursday, July 24 from 5 to 7PM, and Leon Loughridge will create and print Japanese-style moku hanga woodblock prints over a three-day artist residency July 31 to August 2. Artists Dan Young, Terry Gardner, Margaretta Caesar and Diana Woods will be in the spotlight throughout the month showcasing the depth and feeling of Colorado landscapes. The impressionist landscape paintings of Dan Young feel familiar to those who know the wild of the West and the Roaring Fork Valley, sometimes taking the viewer right back to an experience and place. Lauded for his poetic portraits, Terry Gardner draws his inspiration from legendary surroundings – historic ranches and ancient groves – expressing the mystery and intrigue of the subjects and their present power that will eventually fade in time. In the hands of Margaretta Caesar, landscapes come alive through the thick brushstrokes and vibrant palette that create dimensionality. Inspired by the Abstract Expressionist movement, Diana Woods adds dimensions of contrast between animals and their dreamlike surroundings in paintings filled with layers of texture, luminous color, drips and gestural brushstrokes.
