The american experience -Native America
The American Experience is our on-going art series which features the many artists who have shaped America as we know it. Native America celebrates four artists who are Native American, or hav
e used Native American Art as influence, and inspiration in their work.
Dan Namingha is the highly acclaimed Native American artist collected by dozens ofimportant public and private collections. His rich art and cultural background allow him to reach further than many artists, blending the many American art influences into his unique paintings. Arlo Namingha is Dan Namingha’s son, and very successful sculptor. He comes from a similar background as his father, but approaches his art with the mind of a sculptor, more influenced by form and material.
Janet Nelson
and Michael Wisner are not Native Americans, but their art is heavily influenced by their ancient materials and patterns. Janet makes her robes with layered and cast paper. The bead work is all hand formed and painted. Michael Wisner uses one of the oldest art forms known, ceramics, to express his art. Each vessel is carefully formed, then each mark individually pressed into the drying clay to honor the ancient patterns from native cultures. Michael is in numerous important collections, and is often sought after as a teacher to share his unique skills.
Please join us on July 17th as we explore Native America.
